ABSTRACT

This chapter gives an overview of the management of sexual homicide offenders in the community. We consider the legal framework for managing cases and what is known about release, recidivism, and risk assessment, and discuss the crucial role of case formulation. We then give an overview of community management, emphasizing the individualized and differential management of cases, including consideration of the three main types of sexual homicide offenders (sadistic, angry, and incidental). Finally, we briefly consider prevention.
