ABSTRACT
One of the main features of monopoly capitalism is the increasing use of mechanization and automation, the use of electronics and microprocessors. The main theme of Labour and Monopoly Capitalism is the degradation of craft-work into deskilled labour. Certain management practices, which exemplify an anti-collectivism, are being increasingly imitated in educational institutions. Common procedures include the following: there is a strengthening of hierarchization in large schools through differentials. The individuals of a group that has a strong ideological identity are separated and then merged into a larger organization. In contrast with Braverman's economic analysis, some writers have reacted by making a plea for an analysis of work from a cultural point of view. Unemployment must be studied in the context of the objective contradictions that exist within the capitalist mode of production.
