game at the Metrodome, when the I-35W Bridge collapsed, sending cars plummeting into the Mississippi River. The tragedy spurred the federal government to reexamine its system for ensuring the safety of bridges around the country. Journalists across the nation began poring through government records to assess the safety of bridges in their own regions.
