ABSTRACT

When you investigate a story you explore for information. You won’t know what you will find, how long it will take or how hard your journey will be. You start with just a piece of information and a question. That first piece might be a campaign donation made from a businessperson to a politician. Or it could be the firing of a university administrator. It might be a surprising statistic or an anecdotal comment that something doesn’t seem right. To turn the statistic or tip into a story is a process of exploration. But before you set out, you need to prepare for the voyage.
