ABSTRACT

The attention of national, state, and local policy and practice across the public and private sectors is increasingly turning to the question of how to achieve better health outcomes and health status of entire communities. However, the task of improving health at a population level is a challenging imperative. Guided by the National Quality Strategy, 1 the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) enlisted the resources of the National Quality Forum (NQF) to help promote population health more actively. As a neutral convener of individuals and groups interested in improving health outcomes and healthcare quality, NQF was uniquely positioned to engage a variety of national experts to guide this effort.
