ABSTRACT

This chapter continues the process of explaining local defiance through a statistical evaluation of potential factors associated with local defiance. The sampling process yielded more than 160 cities, with 48 from Colorado, 60 from Ohio, and another 60 from Texas. For each state, logistic regression was performed as to whether the city had defied the state. Like the preceding chapter, a number of factors, such as the percentage of owner-occupied homes, commitment to sustainable economic development, voter turnout, and median home values were associated with cities that have defied the state.
