ABSTRACT

This chapter features two partnership cases that provide windows into the intricacies of implementing a partnership. They expose the elements that were required, including who is involved, their roles and how they went about forming the partnership. The first case in this chapter is that of the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) and Washoe County School District (WCSD). The second case in this chapter features SanDERA, the San Diego Education Research Alliance. In 2011, CASEL and the NoVo Foundation launched the Collaborating Districts Initiative (CDI) to build capacity in eight large urban school districts to systematically provide support for Social and emotional learning (SEL) in all schools and classrooms, enhancing the social and emotional competence of all pre-K-12 students and the adults who serve them. Since 2009, WCSD has held annual data summits to comprehensively review student and system outcomes evaluate district progress and determine how to use the information for district and school improvement.
