ABSTRACT

Golf, a challenging and fascinating game, is considered one of the most ancient of modern sports. The name "golf" is thought to be derived from Germanic term kolbe, or Dutch term kolf, meaning club. Early-day golf equipment differed greatly from that used in present-day game. Golf is game for players of all skill levels, from beginning golfer to golf professional. Equipment has improved drastically, while staying within United States Golf Association (USGA) specifications, and increasing number of manufacturers competing in today's market ensures an even better quality of equipment in future. Media coverage of professional golf tournaments continues to focus worldwide attention on sport. Golfers can use weight training to increase muscular strength and endurance. During pre-season, weight-training program should consist of exercises that continue to strengthen major muscle groups plus work on various body parts. To prevent the body from fatiguing during round of golf, some type of cardiovascular or aerobic exercise should be done regularly.
