ABSTRACT

This chapter uses the drills, and soon people will have increased their awareness of sand shots and skill level to the point that sand bunkers will no longer pose a threat to people's game. Chip shots require a short backswing and an accelerating downswing. One of the most common mistakes in chipping is to take the club back too far and too fast for the short shot. Consistently accurate shots become difficult to achieve when the golf club is slowing down at club impact. Pre-swing fundamentals include the grip, set-up, alignment, and pre-shot routine. In-swing fundamentals include the takeaway, backswing, downswing, and followthrough. The relationship between the swing path and clubface position will determine the direction of the ball flight. The ten-finger position, or baseball grip, is the most popular among beginning golfers. All ten fingers are contacting the club, in much the way that baseball player holds bat. This provides golfer with greater feeling of control over club.
