ABSTRACT

Golf is a physical game. Various psychological strategies can help golfers gain control of their mind and emotions prior to and during play. Mental imagery is an effective and often forgotten tool for improving physical skills. Self-confidence enables you to approach any golfing situation with a positive attitude. Although muscular contraction is necessary to perform a golf swing, too much muscular tension can interfere with the kinetic chain. Many good relaxation techniques are available. Three relaxation techniques are explained briefly here: Stretching, Progressive Relaxation, Rhythmic Breathing. Tension is often a result of overly tight muscles, and stretching will release the tension. Systematic desensitization is often used to relieve anxiety about a given situation. Wearing light-colored clothing and a visor or hat will help the golfer stay cool. Humidity will make golfers perspire more, so make sure people have several dry towels and spare golf gloves in their bag to keep their hands and grip dry.
