ABSTRACT

Badminton is a racket sport that can be enjoyed by just about anyone because it is easy to learn and can be played at any level. A badminton player must learn the fundamental racket strokes used in the game in order to execute the basic shots. Badminton can be played as a singles or doubles game. In singles play, one person must cover the entire court on his/her side of the net. Except for mixed doubles, competition is usually separate for men and women. A badminton rally always starts with a serve. In singles, a high deep serve is used most of the time. This is usually followed by a combination of clears and drop shots. Before starting play, a coin toss, or racket spin, determines who will serve first. The point (rally) always starts with a serve. An inning is the period a player (or team) holds service. Faults refer to a violation that will result in a penalty.
