ABSTRACT

The ready position is the actual skill presented for the developing player and is the foundation for all other skills. The forearm pass or “bump” is probably one of the most important skills in volleyball to master as this skill is used more than any other skill in the game. The forearm pass is accomplished by clasping the hands together with the elbows straight and rotated inward in order to provide a flat, soft surface extending from the base of the wrists to the elbows. The overhead pass or “set” is one of the most important skills in volleyball as it offers a player the most accuracy. The spike is the most powerful skill in volleyball and involves the explosive action of hitting the ball hard and downward over the net into the opponent’s court at a sharp angle.
