ABSTRACT

This section of the text provides a brief discussion of some of the more common misconceptions of weight training and outlines the key components of program deH sign. Essentially, the preliminary considerations are the foundation of the program and are those factors (personal goals, medical and exercise history, physical condiH tion, time commitment, and accessibility) that guide its design. It is impossible to design an appropriate program before considering these preliminary factors. SecH ondary considerations build upon the foundations and shape the manner in which the program is to be performed. The secondary factors are the choice of exercises, type of resistance, exercise order, number of repetitions, number of sets, load asH signment, volume, frequency, duration, and rest.
