ABSTRACT

A literature review's main purpose is to summarize the existing scholarship. It is a standard part of a research report whose role is to introduce themes and topics in previously published articles and books that orient the reader to the conversation about the topic. Literature reviews start most writing that reports original research, including journal articles, theses, dissertations, and sometimes student papers. The report claims that there was little research prior to 2002. Statistics claim that many students are affected, and establish that the issue is important to students. In empirical articles, the literature review often appears at the beginning, and may flow directly from the introductory paragraph or follow directly after an introduction. Literature reviews often start with a combination of definitions and statements of supporting evidence indicating the importance of the problem area.
