ABSTRACT

Let’s return to an observation we made at the beginning of this book: although many firms have talked about simplification, and some have embarked on simplification initiatives, very few have succeeded in reaping the full benefits that simplification can offer. Any team or organization can employ the tools presented in chapter 6 and the structural tips presented in chapter 7 to embark on a simplification initiative. But simplification for an organization of any size is also an ongoing process that unfolds organically in real time. As such, it will spark common fears that people have, trigger the usual political dynamics, and in general reveal both the latent strengths and weaknesses present in any organization. When obstacles crop up, managers and leaders have to step up, calling upon their deep stores of grit, determination, vision, and perseverance to get the job done.
