ABSTRACT

When we become curious about our kids’ day-to-day lives, we can better understand the challenges they face navigating the digital connectedness of their school and social world. Nonetheless, 24-7 connectivity with the outside world can put a strain on family life. Parents may find that they have few opportunities to model good communication for children and mentor them to be good communicators using cell phones, computers, and other digital media because these devices tend to be used privately; family members are not communicating out loud in one another’s presence, as they did with a centrally located home telephone.
