ABSTRACT

The standing long jump is a test of muscular power (power = (force X distance) / time) of the legs and conceptually is similar to the vertical jump test. The standing long jump, however, involves jumping horizontally as far as possible, whereas the vertical jump test measures the height that the subject can jump. The standing long jump distance is highly correlated with other indices of muscular power, such as mean and peak power from the Wingate test (see Lab 20) and jumping height from the vertical jump test (see Lab 21). 2, 6
