ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the measuring psychomotor perfor- mance, including sports skills. It describes the creation of the rubric as well as how the rubric would be used in an actual evaluation situation to evaluate skills at the various levels of the psychomotor taxonomy. According to many experts on movement, nonverbal communication through purposeful body movement is the highest level of psychomotor per- formance. A rubric is a ranked set of descriptors that specifies the components of a skill. Rubrics may be used to measure skills at various levels of the psychomotor taxonomy, from skilled movement to communicative movement. In athletic training, psychomotor evaluation may involve identifying abnormal movements of athletes to promote full restoration of function after injuries or other problems. Measuring psychomotor skills is challenging, and it presents lots of opportu- nities to make mistakes. One of the most common errors is overtesting.
