ABSTRACT

Measuring and evaluating employees in order to identify errors and help them improve their work will help them as well as help the employer. Probationary reviews occur after a new employee has been working for a certain period of time, often 90 days. After that, reviews may be scheduled based on the employee's anniversary with the company or at designated points in the calendar year. An employee's performance cannot be validly evaluated without reference to some standard. Each employee should have performance standards and goals, agreed to by both the employee and the supervisor. A rater or team of raters observes the employee performing the job and then rates the performance of key aspects of the job on some established scale. In a large school system or business, committees should be selected in such a way that their members are not directly associated with the employees being evaluated.
