ABSTRACT

Those of us who coach encounter a great variety of scenarios involving ethical decisions and other dilemmas. In this book we focus on the challenges and issues encountered in adolescent and youth coaching. Those who coach in school settings are placed in unique situations rarely experienced by others who work with students. A single day or even a moment can bring a coach to a critical point in his or her career. How a coach responds in these situations can not only make a difference in his or her life, but also in the lives of students, parents, other teachers, and even the school or community. Being prepared to use the right decision-making tools and strategies can help overcome obstacles and strengthen a team. Being unprepared and making poor choices can lead to poor performance, unemployment, or worse.
