ABSTRACT

Skimlab developed a skeleton-based modeling system, where users can move the element around and add segments and points to create a 3D shape. Skimlab's 3D modeling system is based on technologies developed at French National Institute for Research in Computer Science. The technology works in real time online without any installation required and guarantees that the models are 3D printable. Skimlab technology was applied to Jweel, a platform where customers become designers thanks to several apps that enable a high level of customization while remaining simple and easy to use. The simplest Jweel app allows the user to transform text into a 3D ring. The most advanced app involves "freestyle sculpting." This allows users to create any shape using a skeleton-based modeling system. Skimlab developed a proprietary web-based solution called "skim.js." This Javascript library can perform a set of tasks from managing 3D widgets and user interactions to launching heavy 3D computations in parallel.
