ABSTRACT

To achieve sustainable manufacturing, industries would have to prevent waste generation, reduce material, energy, and pollution through waste minimization hierarchy. The implementation of waste minimization without considering the social aspect tends to be ineffective, as the successful environmental performance of industry was influenced by the role of workers. Auto component industries have conducted waste management but a holistic review of environment impact is needed to meet sustainable manufacturing requirements. The objectives of this research are i) identification of waste management performance in auto component industry iii) identification of waste minimization implementation ii) understanding the implementation waste minimization through human resource involvement. This study suggests that in its production process, auto component industry generates wastewater, hazardous waste and air pollution. Waste minimization implementation has been conducted with the approach in raw material management, testing process, technology modification, and good housekeeping. Here, the role of human resources in implementation of waste minimization is essential for success especially good knowledge of employee and motivation in cost reduction.
