ABSTRACT

Managed events occur in many forms and for many different objectives. So, it is necessary to understand the differences between one event and another. Functions are smaller events. Usually, they are uncomplicated and follow a standard format, such as a dinner, wedding or drinks reception. They can be formal or informal and would normally be held in a venue that is intended for the purpose, such as a function room or a hotel banqueting suite. Productions are events that contain technical requirements and as such are complex. They require technical expertise – a production company. Banquets are sit-down dinners and are formal, such as mayoral, military and regimental occasion dinners. This type of event follows a standard format, usually with arrival drinks, then the banquet, followed by dancing. Galas are the same as banquets, but with a show or stage presentation. The emphasis is on entertainment, whereas the emphasis of a banquet is the dining occasion.
