ABSTRACT

Three-dimensional television (3DTV) aims to bring the “real world” sensation to the viewer. However, there are several problems to tackle before providing services for 3DTV. 3D content can be delivered as stereoscopic or multi-view video in a framecompatible or depth-based format. As large data volumes are produced to generate stereo or multi-view content, a number of compression methods have been proposed to efficiently store and/or transmit the data. Researchers are also striving to successfully develop 3DTV displays that provide good image quality (and depth sensation) without the need for glasses and without visual discomfort.
