ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we describe a very important application of digital signal processing: the processing of seismic signals, which are the main tool for the discovery of new reserves of oil and gas, and for the proper management and exploration of the corresponding fields. For instance, the decision of whether or not a well should be drilled, and where it should be drilled, is based in great part on information extracted from seismic signals. Clearly, this application is essential for the whole oil and gas industry.
