ABSTRACT

The dramatic increase in the use of electricity for domestic and industrial purposes proves that electrical energy plays an important part in our society. Modem society is indeed unworkable without the existence of electrical appliances. The use of electricity results in the production of electric and magnetic fields or electromagnetic (EM) fields. These fields are invisible forces of nature, generated by electricity, which are present whenever electricity exists. The influence of electricity on biology was observed as early as the eighteenth century. The units for the fundamental dimensions are called the fundamental or base units. Each human being is a collection of billions of living cells, which group together as an organ to perform essential functions. Evaluation of any health risk due to exposure to EM fields relies on the results of a well-established body of research based on experimental data from biological systems, epidemiological and human studies, as well as on understanding the various mechanisms of interaction.
