ABSTRACT

Successful presentations frequently depend on how well we analyze our potential audience. I once prepared a speech for a non-profit organization in the Atlantic City area. Based on discussions with the coordinator, I anticipated the evening's audience to be a group of young, highly motivated businessmen. Upon arriving, I found that most ofthe audience consisted ofretired businessmen who were more interested in golf and sports than on getting ahead or preparing for a successful career. During supper, I men~ tally revised my presentation, making it appropriate to the evening's audience. As are~ suit, the speech was highly successful.
