ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses parameter estimation problems when data are collected in two dimensions. In particular, it discusses a two-dimensional (2-D) frequency estimation problem that arises in radar systems using space-time processing. The chapter provides a brief introduction of the radar systems. It considers radar systems employing multiple receive antenna elements, and assumes that several digital outputs are available from the antenna array, either from analog subarrays or from each antenna element. A pulsed Doppler radar transmits a coherent burst of short pulses of a certain carrier frequency. The chapter also adopts a structured space-time model for the noise correlation. It also discusses the problem of direction of arrival (DOA) and Doppler estimation using a pulsed Doppler radar system employing an array of antennas.
