ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the audio coding algorithm for the ISO/IEC international standard. Three standard algorithms have been established for use depending on the number of channels and the sampling frequency: MPEG-1 audio, MPEG-2 MC, and MPEG-2 LSF. Depending on the complexity and quality achieved, each of the above three layers is classified into Layer I/II based on sub-band coding or Layer III based on the combination of the sub-band coding and adaptive transform coding.
