ABSTRACT

To be useable a cable has to be terminated in some form of connector. Various levels of interconnection may also be required in between the two end points of the cable system. There are many, many different kinds of connector. The choice of connector depends upon the electrical performance required, the environment in which it must be installed, number of conductors to be terminated, type of cable involved and power, voltage and current levels expected. A 600V, twelve-core power cable connector for an exposed position on a North Sea oil rig will bear little resemblance to a connector for an indoor data cable containing four twisted pairs.
