ABSTRACT

In many high data rate, bandlimited digital communication systems, the trans mission of a training sequence is either impractical or very costly. Blind adaptive channel equalization algorithms that do not rely on training signals are developed. With “blind” algorithms, individual receivers can begin self-adaptation without transmitter assistance. The ability of blind startup allows individual receivers to self-recover from temporary disruptions or breakdowns. The self-recovery ability is critical in broadcast and multi-cast systems where the training sequence for one new user can be disruptive to currently connected users.
