ABSTRACT
Under information security, the author means the ways of information protection from intentional or accidental unauthorized access, which can damage the normal course of data exchange in a system as well as stealing, modification, and destruction of information. The real issue is the jump of the smart grid vulnerability to hacker attacks. Unfortunately, none of the preceding measures of protection from cyber attacks will help in this situation since in actuality there was no cyber attack to digital protection relays (DPR). Modern trends in relay protection based on the substitution of electromechanical protection relays by DPRs have resulted in the emergence of an absolutely new problem, which was not known before. The appreciation of the problem of DPR's cyber safety has resulted in intensification of multiple investigations in the area of cyber safety all over the world. Built-in Wi-Fi modems have already been built into the DPRs by the leading Western manufacturers.
