ABSTRACT

Carbon nanotube (CNT) and graphene nanoribbon (GNR) are two new materials made of carbon. Graphene is a two-dimensional structure where the carbon atoms are arranged in hexagonal array. The CNT is a rolled graphene sheet in the form of a cylinder. Both these materials have a great potential in making future very large-scale integration (VLSI) circuits due to their excellent properties. However, the main bottleneck of utilizing these materials in VLSI circuits is the suitable growth technology and compatibility with the existing silicon-based complimentary metal-oxidesemiconductor (CMOS) integrated circuit technology. These materials are synthesized using special techniques which are discussed in this chapter.
