ABSTRACT

Improving the fiber dispersion limit has become an unavoidable challenge for future high-performance and high-capacity dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) long-haul and metropolitan optical systems. The last few years have experienced a fast-growing demand to considerably extend the reach of uncompensated optical links, especially for metropolitan optical networks where the transmission distance is approximately in the range of 300–500 km of standard single-mode fiber (SSMF).
