ABSTRACT

Carroll Steele became involved with this instrumentation just as Tom was leaving. He saw the eyetracker through its Generation II, Ill, IV, and V forms, the merging of the optometer with the eyetracker to make what we refer to as a three-dimensional eyetracker, the refinement of the threedimensional focus stimulator, and the development of all the other accessories. He was the general factotum behind the building of all the systems constructed for other laboratories, as well as the primary point of contact for maintenance of these systems. This meant that he also spent untold hours on the telephone with users: anyone who had an SRI eyetracker knew Carroll, perhaps better than either wished, and more than likely carried Carroll's phone number with him at all times. Carroll left the program and SRI upon his retirement in July 1988, but he stays in touch with SRI's licensee, Fourward Technologies.
