ABSTRACT

Ever since the 1950s, when there were the only two people in the world doing sine-wave flicker experiments-Hendrik DeLange, at Philips Eindhoven, and D. H. Kelly at UCLA-I have had a somewhat proprietary interest in temporal vision studies with sinusoidal stimuli. After a society meeting in Washington a few years later, I was attending a dinner party for visioniks hosted by C. R. Cavonius, who had a very nice apartment across the river in Alexandria. I don't know what criteria Carl used to pick his guests, but he must have had some interest in all of us.
