ABSTRACT

A trend we have been witnessing for quite some time now is the emergence of wireless communication from the office world to the industrial world. Wireless communication in the field of mobile technology has curved out a niche for itself for a couple of decades now. Today’s mobile communication is offering a host of services that could not be thought of even a couple of years ago. Advancements in wireless networking technology, particularly in short-haul communication, offer a tremendous opportunity for networking field devices with the host stations. The process measurement, control, and communication field is steadfastly moving toward the wireless strategy as the initial shortcomings are being removed and as the system is becoming more and more rugged and dependable. For any process control system to be networked wirelessly, factors that must be taken into consideration are reliability, scalability, and real-time mixed data transmission, availability, security, and coexistence with other networks.
