ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the modelling and integration of the related protocols and models in ABSOLUT. It describes the requirements that must be fulfilled by a performance evaluation approach to be applied for the performance evaluation of distributed systems. The chapter discusses describes the models and tools that must be integrated to ABSOLUT to extend it to the SLPE of distributed systems. It provides an overview of the case studies conducted for validating the approach. ABSOLUT uses the Y-chart approach for SLPE and consists of the application workload model and execution platform. ABSOLUT application workload models can be generated via three methods, that is, analytical, measurement-based, trace-based and compiler-based workload generation methods. Extension of ABSOLUT for the performance evaluation of distributed applications requires the modelling of protocols operating at different layers of the open systems interconnection model. The models integrated to ABSOLUT are accurate enough for SLPE and architectural exploration.
