ABSTRACT

BAE Systems has offered unique semiconductor technologies for three decades. Most of these technologies are explicitly optimized for radiation-hardened applications, and the semiconductors produced using them have flown on countless space missions. In addition to producing components for use within BAE Systems’ products and for direct component sales, the Semiconductor Technology Center is employed by the space community as a silicon foundry for radiation-hardened application-specific integrated circuits. In special cases, BAE Systems has partnered with commercial product developers to provide unique radiation-hardened semiconductor products. Slightly later, a companion process was developed employing the traditional approach of combining process enhancements with radiation hardened by design techniques in the BAE Systems STC foundry. The newest radiation-hardened technology from BAE Systems represents change in approach. In this case, a uniquely modified process is employed but it is being manufactured in a commercial semiconductor foundry.
