ABSTRACT
Submarine cables generally have a metallic armor consisting of one or two layers wound around the outside of the cable. The main function of the armor is to provide mechanical strength during the installation and recovery of the cable since the conductor alone may not have sufŽcient tensile strength for this purpose.
