ABSTRACT

The calculations and text are useful for electrical engineers engaged in support of operations, maintenance, and betterment projects for generating stations and other industrial plants. This chapter shows the formulas for calculating peak forces for horizontal bus bars. It illustrates the three overvoltage tests that should be performed routinely on switchgear circuit breakers and provides recommended routine test values. The chapter presents the procedure for calculating the breaker interrupting and momentary asymmetrical currents for breakers manufactured from the mid-1960s to 2000. It provides recommended kilovolt values for the routine direct current (DC) overvoltage of testing of generators. The chapter also illustrates the voltage and current connections for three- phase two-element metering. It covers a procedure for determining real time watts from an induction disk watt-hour meter if the instrument transformer ratios, the secondary kh value, and the number of revolutions over a specified number of seconds are known.
