ABSTRACT

Recent advances in telecommunications are changing our society. The main reasons for this evolution are the increase of connectivity and the monitoring advances, which provide mobility to humans and increase accessibility for the handicapped. Wireless telecommunications allow transferring information between two or more devices that are not physically connected. Wireless Sensor Networks are becoming increasingly important for monitoring patients both in the clinical setting and at home. One of the advantages of Bluetooth is that it can be integrated in most mobile devices and laptops. The IEEE 802.15.3 standard is designed to provide a high data rate and low power consumption solution for WPAN. Two different device types can participate in an LR-WPAN network; a full function device and a reduced function device. It is important to understand that the network layer is not defined for this standard. ZigBee is one of the most popular transmission technologies in WSN in health.
