ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will review SiGe BiCMOS technology and its most significant applications. First, we will provide a basic understanding of how SiGe devices achieve a performance advantage over traditional bipolar and CMOS devices. Next, we review historical application drivers for SiGe technology and project a roadmap of SiGe applications well into the future. Next, we discuss RF performance metrics for SiGe HBT devices, followed by a discussion of how the devices can be optimized to maximize these performance metrics.
