ABSTRACT

This chapter explains each of the five plans and three standards mentioned in DO-178C and include some recommendations to consider while developing them. The five plans are Plan for Software Aspects of Certification (PSAC), Software Development Plan (SDP), Software Verification Plan (SVP), Software Configuration Management Plan (SCMP) and Software Quality Assurance Plan. The PSAC is the one plan that is always submitted to the certification authority. A PSAC that is not submitted until late in the project introduces risk to the project. The SDP explains the software development, including requirements, design, code, and integration phases. The SDP should be written so that it guides the developers to successful implementation. The primary audience for the SVP is the team members who will perform the verification activities, including testing. The SCMP explains how to manage the configuration of the life cycle data throughout the software development and verification effort.
