User datagram protocol (UDP) is a part of TCP/IP suite [STD6,C02-1,F10,GW03,PD07]. It provides fulltransportlayerservicestoapplications.ItbelongstothetransportlayerintheTCP/IPsuitemodel, asshowninFigure60.1.UDPprovidesaconnectionbetweentwoprocessesatbothendsoftransmission.¥isconnectionisprovidedwithminimaloverhead,without®owcontroloracknowledgmentof receiveddata.¥eminimalerrorcontrolisprovidedbyignoring(dropping)receivedpacketsthatfail the checksum test.
