ABSTRACT

Femtocell networks, which are also known as personal-use base stations, have recently received considerable attention from industry and academia due to their tremendous potential for capacity improvements of next-generation wireless systems [1,2]. The data rate requirements for the next-generation wireless networks have been specied under the wireless standard referred to as the IMT-Advanced, where peak rates on the order of 1 Gbps are targeted for lowmobility scenarios. Such high data rate requirements can be achieved through deploying smaller cells for improving the wireless link quality as in the case of femtocell networks.
