ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a six-legged robot: the Extreme Hexapod II and III by Lynxmotion Inc. The Extreme Hexapod III has two main mechanical parts: the legs and the body. This hexapod has a three degrees of freedom leg design that enables the robot to walk side to side as well as keep the feet moving in a straight line when walking forward. The chapter explains how Hexapod robots can be controlled and moved. It presents a controller with the robot and provides walking schemes in addition to necessary programs to move the robot. The hexapod can be controlled by a standard microcontroller such as OOPic, Basic Stamp 2, and Basic Atom Pro. The hexapod can move more than 12 inches per second. It is 5.5 inches high, 17 inches wide and 13.5 inches long. The hexapod has two main mechanical parts: the legs and the body.
