ABSTRACT

As discussed in the previous chapter, many new nanotechnology companies will start their R&D efforts around knowledge, inventions, and patents that originate in university or governmental laboratories. After these young companies are established, they will begin to make their own inventions and le patents around work done entirely in their own laboratories, but in their early stages they will be obtaining, or licensing, rights to inventions from these other sources. The process of negotiating these licenses can be lengthy and frustrating, especially to someone who has not negotiated licenses previously. The legal agreements can be very long and complex, which is one of many reasons that no license contract negotiations should be entered into without an experienced contract lawyer with licensing experience.
