ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology is the study of the control of matter on an atomic and molecular scale. Generally, nanotechnology deals with structures that are 100 nm or smaller. Nanotechnology is viewed as having huge potential in areas as diverse as biosciences, integrated circuit fabrication and electronics, power generation, and energy storage. Nanotechnology faces several challenges in this arena. Microelectronics and nanotechnology involve the tiny engines and brains that drive millions of products and services. Nuclear power, for example, is a primary candidate for reduced carbon emission electricity production. Hydroelectric power generation is another technology currently used in energy production but it is limited by supply expansion. Solar power is particularly valuable for reducing the load in the United States’ electric grid and for lowering the risk of major blackouts. Wind power is gaining a lot of attention lately and is considered to be another important electricity production source.
