ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a survey of security services explicitly designed to offer tunability. It focuses on data protection services that are designed to provide tunability. The chapter covers some services that are related to the protection of data transferred over the network, focusing on data confidentiality, data integrity, and data authenticity. It discusses that the trade-off offered by a service may be more or less well specified. The chapter uses S to denote the set of all possible security configurations provided by a service. The services covered in the chapter allow the end users to act as tuners for the service. The chapter represents the set of tuner preferences offered by a service by T. Adaptivity is an important tool to improve performance in wireless networks. The chapter explains how this concept can be applied to security, through the provision of tunable security services.
